Covers-are-lifted-from-the-VW-Scirocco

It's been something of a perennial favourite and the revamped Volkswagen Scirocco has been restyled and fitted with a range of new engines.

New Scirocco

This current model was launched six years ago and builds on a 40 year long history of what has been an excellent and well-priced coupe from the German carmaker.

The new model has a number of subtle styling changes to the exterior, the interior is of higher quality of the new engines are more frugal.

Engines and performance in the new VW Scirocco

Perhaps the best performing version will be the line-up's top performer, the VW Scirocco R, which is fitted with a 2.0 litre petrol engine which produces 276bhp.

One of the popular choices for buyers will probably be the 1.4 litre petrol direct-injection engine which produces 123bhp and has plenty of power and ability.

Also available from launch will be the firm's impressive 2.0litre turbodiesel variant which has an output of 148bhp or 181bhp.

The engines will return between 35mpg and 67mpg with the cleanest engine being the 2.0litre TDI which will have CO2 emissions of 109g/km.

In comparison the 2.0litre TSI petrol variant has emissions of 148g/km.

VW Scirocco pays homage to its history

Among the exterior changes are to the front bumper, grille, rear LED lights and bi-xenon headlights.

The VW Scirocco will be fitted with 17 inch wheels although there's the option to buy 18 inch or 19 inch wheels instead.

Inside, the car has a few nods to the design of the new Golf GTI with an impressive dashboard and well-made components.

One nice touch is to bring back the gauges for the Volkswagen Scirocco's oil temperature, turbocharger boost pressure and a stopwatch - which all appeared on the original version in 1974.

With the exception of the entry level vehicle, the 1.4 litre petrol, all models have a choice of six speed dual clutch gearbox with manual and automatic mode or a standard six speed manual transmission.

As before, the VW Scirocco will only come in front wheel drive versions.

Orders are being taken now for the new VW Scirocco with prices starting at £20,455 and deliveries are expected later this year; it goes without saying that the car is already impressing motoring journalists for its abilities and fun factor.
